So just curious what's your favorite dog breed and why? Do you prefer large or
small dogs? Or perhaps medium sized dogs? thoughts?

Anything that's not a toy breed. Oh wait, basset hounds are ugly too.

My favorites are Labs and Golden Retrievers.

Both sweethearts.

Well, I don't care wich dog I have. But I do love Golden retrievers, poodles, and little papilons. And, also, I like boxers because of their aggrisiveness.

I love labs and goldens best and I prefer medium to large breeds. Not so much into little dogs.

I like most dogs. Although for a pet the easiest to train I find are the big dogs
like great danes and saint bernards. That doesn't mean other dogs can't be
trained they're just easier and seem to behave better.

Owned Great Danes as a kid (one at a time, thank god), and I won't say they're my favourite but I do like them. They're huge, a touch clumsy, but very friendly. I've never ever met a mean or depressed one; they may not be as downright fetching as, say, a lab or golden retriever, but I dunno...I like them a lot.
Also do like the aforementioned labs and retrievers, as well as border collies. I don't really have an issue with any dog as long as A) it's fairly friendly and B) it doesn't bark all the time. I also don't tend to like most small long-haired dogs; they tend to get messy.

I like German shepherds - they're intelligent, they have amazing ears, and their voices are very expressive. I used to love to watch my dog's ears stand straight up when I said the word "treat." He also made the absolute best "I am SO bored" sound I have ever heard. He would make it in class lectures, at precisely the right moment.

I to like labs, and goldens.
I really, really, really wanted a Russian mountain dog, until I saw how hard they were going to be to control. As majestic as they are, having a dog around that is likely to kill people it doesn't know is way too much of a risk.
Owning a Newfoundland could be cool, or an irish wolfhound.

Labs, goldens, border collies, German shepherds. My parents rescued a border collie/blue heeler, and he is the gentlest, sweetest, and most loyal dog I have ever seen in my life. Most dogs, at his age (six), would stop trusting humans after they'd been starved, beaten, strangled by their own collars etc. When he came to us he was skin and bones, with both ears split right down the middle. It's too symmetrical to have just been a fight with another dog. He had a bruised trachea from someone strangling him with his collar. He would keen--positively keen--when you touched his neck. He was trembling like a leaf, scared out of his mind. But you could tell he desperately wanted to like us...and now, at ten, he is the happiest dog, and loves my dad so much, in particular, that when he came home after a long absence, Sammy (that's his name) went into a frenzy, ran up to him, and rested his head on my dad's chest. It was the cutest damn thing I'd ever seen.

I love dogs in general. I don't like all small dogs. I have a bichon Poodle mix who I love to pieces. Very smart.

Voyager, I love your description of your shepherd!

Agree with all you said. I have a shepherd, he's very vocal, and has so much personality. Those ears are a marvel to watch! You can tell how interested he is in something by the position of his ears.

i adore labs, too--large dogs, in general, but aside from a beagle when I was a kid, all I've had are guide dogs, so labs, and one shepherd.

Post 14 by Voyager (I just keep on posting!) on Wednesday, 20-May-2015 17:51:59

Also, I forgot to mention that when he saw someone he adored, his ears would go so far back they seemed to disappear.

Labs are big friendly dogs. So are boxers. My parents keep boxers, so I've probably spent more time with them than any other kind of dog. Very hyper and playful. They make their own sounds, which are very different from shepherd sounds.

I like German shepherd's because they are big and can be intimidating to others so you would always be protected and yeah the way their ears go really makes me laugh especially when they get excited and they go all the way forward as it looks like they are going to fall off their head, lol, smiles.
I also like a number of the other breeds that have been mentioned on here, smiles.

I wanna meet Saint Bernards, English Mastiffs, great danes, etc. Never have.

I like Labs, Goldens, GSDs. I play FP Furry Paws, so get a lot of breeds on there that I probably will never have in RL. I got specials in Dachshunds, Miniture Dachshunds, Irish Wolfhounds, Saarloos Wolfdogs, and Canadian Eskimos.

I'm particularly partial to Cocker Spaniels having more or less grown up with one, although I do rather like Pomeranians and Shih-Tsus. Golden Retrievers are also fairly high on my list as is the Chow Chow, although I know they can be a bit temperamental especially if not socialized properly. In other words I like the really soft ones.

Cockers are aggressive little fuckers.

Post 20 by Reyami (I've broken five thousand! any more awards going?) on Monday, 25-Jan-2016 6:09:33

I'm biased toward labradors and golden retrievers. Wouldn't mind a pet Great Dane one day, but I hear their life span is shorter than most other breeds because of their size. They're big dogs, but very sweet.

black labs rock!!!!!! also bassenji's which are not mentioned often are amazing and crazy dogs. not a fan of purse puppies like Chihuahuas. also, as a child I was attacked by a retired police gsd so not a big fan. I will take them on an individualized basis but as a breed not so much.

Post 22 by Imprecator (The Zone's Spelling Nazi) on Monday, 25-Jan-2016 20:30:06

I wuv labs. Don't think the color matters. Standard poodles are nice too. Friend of mine recently had to put her guide poodle to sleep and she wasn't even five years old.

Post 23 by Jesse (Hmm!) on Tuesday, 26-Jan-2016 16:01:37

Pit Bulls! After owning mine, I wouldn't want another breed.
